Who We Are

The S3 Center was founded by Dr. Jessica Schleider, with the assistance of Dr. Erica Szkody and Ian Sotomayor. The S3 Center was designed to implement SSI mental health supports for health care workers and trainees at SBU Hospital.

We are currently in an evaluation stage of this Health Services and Resources Administration (HRSA) funded project to find out whether these supports are helpful to health care workers and trainees at Stony Brook Medicine.

The Creation of the S3 Center

Together, the Lab for Scalable Mental Health (LSMH) collaborated with Stony Brook Medicine to establish the S3 Center to offer mental health support to healthcare workers and trainees in the SBU community.

Dr. Schleider partnered with Dr. Susmita Pati, a nationally recognized physician-scientist at the SBU School of Medicine, on a grant they received from the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA), a department of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. The grant was awarded to help healthcare workers at Stony Brook Medicine build resilience through two main programs, one of which is the S3 Center. Dr. Schleider and Dr. Pati have worked to advance and improve support offered to healthcare workers and trainees, specifically by creating mental health support that is tailored to the specific needs of healthcare workers.
